SOME 200 participants took part in a treasure hunt that successfully raised RM60,000 for charity.

The 16th Annual Motoring Treasure Hunt from Penang to Songkhla themed ‘Charity Treasure Hunt with a Heart’, organised by the Bayan Baru Welfare Association, saw 50 cars in the convoy.

Association chairman Heng Yak Hoi, who was event organising chairman, said the money was from many kind donors and would be channelled to its Welfare, Educa- tion, Medical and Disaster Relief Fund.

“Over the past 15 years, we raised some RM1.5mil for charities through this event,” he said in his speech before the flag-off ceremony in front of Sunshine Square in Bayan Baru.

Heng said the association had also donated RM5,000 to SJK(C) Aik Hwa this year to help with the school’s relocation.

He said the treasure hunt tests participants’ motoring skills as well as enable them to explore the trails in the countryside.

Teluk Bahang assemblyman Datuk Seri Dr Hilmi Yahaya, who officiated the event on behalf of state Barisan Nasional chairman Teng Chang Yeow, commended the organisers on raising funds for good causes.

The technical adviser was the Kedah Motor Sports Club.

The convoy started at about 8am and reached the Changloon border in Kedah at about 1pm. They then drove to Songkhla, Thailand, and a dinner was held at the Pavilion Hotel where winners won cash and vouchers totalling RM5,350 and trophies.
