TREASURE HUNT SOCIETY OF MALAYSIA

The time has finally arrived that treasure hunt should be given due recognition.
The sport has come such a long way; with at least 20 years of history.

There have been attempts in the past to establish a society for treasure hunt; but none came to fruition. So the sceptics may question a recent effort on 16th Jan 2011, when more than 20 hunters gathered at Purple Antz office to discuss the formation of Treasure Hunt Society of Malaysia.

Why do we need a society for treasure hunting?” Why now?”

Let me share my take on this matter:- Why do we need a society for treasure hunting?”

We need a body with an concerted effort to push the sport of treasure hunting to the next level, to promote to a wider audience, to reach out and share the joy of hunting with others.

Too often, we heard new treasure hunters come for a hunt or two; they gave up half way due to various reasons – eg entry fee too expensive, hard to understand cryptic clueing, unpleasant experience with certain COC, can’t compete with the experienced hunters, insufficient hunts etc

Treasure Hunt Society (THS) will attempt to bridge the gap; by publicising the events to more people,  providing training for its members etc. THS intends to organise hunts to cater for various levels of hunters, with value-for-money events to give the necessary education/training and experience for the newbies and to accelerate their learning process.

THS is by no means intended to supplant the current crops of COC or act as a regulatory body.
Take a look at the 5 Objectives of THS:-
1.     To promote and develop the sport and recreation of treasure hunting;
2.     To provide education and training for members of the society and the public with regards to aspects of treasure hunting;
3.     To compile a history of treasure hunting in Malaysia and to develop an archive to provide resources and reference for future hunters,
4.     To encourage widespread contacts and friendship among its members through an annual treasure hunt and other social gatherings,
5.     To give recognition to the pioneers, creators and contributors of the sport and recreation of treasure hunting.

You’ll realise that it is formed to promote,  foster learning and camaraderie among hunters, while at the same time archive the history and story of treasure hunting from the past.

Why now?”
 Well....if not now, when?

The time is ripe as we are seeing more that 50 treasure hunts organised each year
 with a steady stream of hunters coming to the fore, enjoying the hunt experience;
 and older hunters intermingle with regular hunters and newcomers.

If we wait for another (say) 10 years, we may have lost the golden opportunity to speak to some of these veteran hunters; who may regale us with great stories from the past & how things used to be.

After a 2-hour meeting with in-depth discussion about THS objectives, constitutions and rights, finally THS National Committee has been duly elected.
