Putting their best foot forward
MORE than 200 people from all ages took part in the Sanuk Penang Walkabout Hunt held in two shopping malls and the heritage zone of George Town.
It was organised by footwear retailer Sanuk. Plenty of activities were in store and it was ‘sanuk’ (Thai word for fun) for the participants.
The event started at Queensbay Mall where participants were given clues to solve questions before heading to 1st Avenue where they were given three different assignments to undertake.
The event on Saturday morning ended at Fort Cornwallis in The Esplanade where the participants had to answer questions on the heritage zone.
Judy Hong, 27, took part in the challenge with her friends.
“It is a good way to bring friends and family together and spend a day out,” she said.
Spokesman Jin Li described the walkabout hunt as “not your average, traditional walkabout,” adding that there were certain activities that included using Sanuk’s foot-wear.
“One activity had participants bending the shoes to make a letter.
“It’s not only fun for the participants but it also helps them understand and learn about the product,” Li added.
The top team received RM2,000 cash and cash vouchers worth RM1,000 while the first runner- up received RM1,500 cash and vouchers worth RM500.
The third finisher walked away with RM1,000 cash and RM500 in cash vouchers.

Famous for its fun exotic sandals, Sanuk put more than 40 teams of participants to a walkabout challenge in a Penang hunt on Sat (14th June 2014). True to its literal meaning (Sanuk means fun in Thai language), the hunt required the participants to tackle lots of fun challenges in different venues.
The trail started in Queensbay Mall, where the participants had to locate 7 shops in the venue for answers to the questions, before performing a watery challenge.
Then the teams were transported to 1st Avenue mall; but beware... there were some questions to be answered en route.

At the second mall, they had to answer more questions and perform several more challenges - which included yoga pose and bending the shoes. Then the real walk hunt began, where they had to trek all the way to the heritage areas.
Through Carnavon Street, Armenian Street, Lebuh Acheh, Jalan Masjid Kapitan Keling and Queen Street, the hunters journeyed before ending their journey at Fort Cornwallis.
Along the way, more fun challenges were thrown at the hunters; including street busking (with brooms), hoola hoop trial, photo and eating challenges!
The Sanuk Penang walkabout hunt certainly brought out the best in the hunters, as they had to juggle with the multiple challenges and questions, while dealing with the hot weather.
Yet judging from the smiles on their faces, they definitely had fun, exploring the various sites of Pearl of the Orient!
