The excited participants, gathered at Queensbay Mall for the Food Hunt. The adventurous type, in sync with the roar of the engines, converged at St Xavier's Institution for the Motor Hunt flag off.

A total of 500 people consisting of 52 Motor hunt teams, 81 Mall hunt teams together with 100 guests attended the hi-tea/prize giving ceremony at Bayview Georgetown Hotel that evening. INTO THE PURPLE ZONE

(by JayMen)

A month of Sundays
Rajj Melambram of Purple Antz has for some time now been reminding me that I have never joined any of the Antz open hunts. I can't quite confirm it but something always cropped up over the last 2 years whenever Antz had a hunt on.

So it was time to rectify this unhealthy situation as I always believe that as COC, one needs to join as many varied hunts as possible to sense what the tenor and style fo the newer setters might be. Of course, one can look at the questions later in the comfort of one's den but there is nothing like taking part in a hunt - and undergo the challenge in the field.

In fact February/ March has been an extraordinary month. I took part in 4 hunts over 4 weekends! I'm sure no Penang guy has done that. First was Chong Foo Seong's Dragon Drive on Feb 12th, then came Shandra Dass's Klang Rotary Hunt on Feb 18th; next was Mahindra Satyam Charity Treasure Hunt 2012 by Purple Antz on 26th Feb and on March 3rd we had Trailblazers' Publika Hunt.

A TEACHING MOMENT

(by JayMen)

KLANG VALLEY 18 FEBRUARY 2012: Once in a while, a hunt comes along that poses questions which can be a great teaching moment. Such a one was Shandra Dass’s Rotary Club of Klang Treasure Hunt 2012 on Feb 18th.
There were 11 difficult and unfamiliar questions that can now serve as a case study for how difficult questions need to be handled. Although “difficulty” consists of about half a dozen aspects, 2 will be sufficient to grade these Qs. These are Economy and Accuracy. Economy here is defined as absence of unnecessary information. Accuracy here is defined as freedom from error.

TOP GEAR TREASURE HUNT 2011 - News

Extracted from Top Gear Malaysia magazine (January 2012 edition)

WHERE FUN AND HUNT MEET
The show must go on, even with part of the TG team MIA somewhere around the world

Firstly, the editorial team apologises for missing this year’s treasure hunt. We were out of the country on assignments and simply could not make it despite trying to fly back in time. It’s always good to get out there to meet and mingle with everyone, but it was not to be this year.

It was just like yesterday when a few of us went to check out a couple of locations in JB to house our annual Treasure Hunt. We were all in a convertible and the drive was an enjoyable one, despite the rain… when we were driving with the top down. Nevertheless, with some speed, we were able to deflect the rain over our heads, so speed is actually your friend… sometimes.

DOWN THE HUNT MEMORY LANE 2011

What a year it was at the world of treasure hunt in 2011!

As we sang "Auld Lang Syne" at the stroke of midnight to celebrate the New Year, it's interesting to reflect on the events of 2011!

For treasure hunters, it has been a year of mounting excitement and thrill, with a few valleys of disappointments!

HNN would like to bid farewell to 2011, with hunt images, news and reflections on this memorable year.

Here's a look at the great fun, disappointments and the promising future of treasure hunts!

HNN HUNT STATISTICS 2011

With the passing of 2011, it'll be interesting to compile some statistical data about treasure hunts during the year.

On record, 2011 has a total of 61 open hunts, organised by 29 COCs (Clerks of Course) or Technical Advisors.

COC Pava's Hunts and Time Out Solution had the highest number of open hunts in 2011 (6 each).

The most popular month for treasure hunts in 2011 seems to be July (10 hunts), followed closely by October (9 hunts), while the least popular month is August, as it was the fasting month. Had it not due to the last-minute cancellation of 4 hunts, December would have been a record month too!

You can find more interesting charts about the hunt events, COCs and the achievement of treasure hunters below.

ALL THAT GLITTERS IS NOT GEM

SEBERANG PERAI 18 DECEMBER 2011: A hunt year that began in great expectation, somehow ended in utter frustration!

With the return of the majestic Putrajaya Hunt, the insatiable Hunting for Meals on Wheels and the traditional heart-stopping CNY Hunt to kick off 2011, the hunters would have reasonably raised their optimism for more great events to come; and perhaps a noteworthy one to wrap up the fantastic year.

When GEMpur Harta Qarun 2011 was delayed to 18th December with promises of fun and salivating prizes, participants surely looked forward to this final hunt as the last chance saloon. Perhaps the god of hunting had decided to ‘Save The Best For Last’!

A few KL teams predictably made the customary pilgrimage to the Pearl of Orient, presumably bedazzled by the sparkling prizes. Instead they found out that all that glitters may not be gem.

AN EYE FOR A MISSION

KLANG VALLEY 10 DECEMBER 2011: As the cinema light gradually dimmed, the catchy theme song of the movie began to play, much to the delight of the audience.

For those growing up during the 1980’s, this familiar tune provided an instant reminder of an awaiting assignment and possibly a thrilling adventure. Watching the premiere of Mission Impossible – Ghost Protocol on the silver screen inevitably rekindled the sweet nostalgia of the original TV series.

Yet somehow it also evoked the hunt memories of previous week, for the participants of Eye Q Treasure Hunt 2011 may arguably claim that they had miraculously survived a more impossible mission.

If Tom Cruise and his team thought that they had it tough in the Ghost Protocol, wait till they attempt the challenges in this Malaysian Mensa hunt. If they considered deactivating the satellite of the Indian mogul Brij Nath (played by the actor Anil Kapoor) as arduous, they should try ‘deactivating’ the lethal questions of the Indian COC Jay (played by err…. the incomparable Jayaram Menon himself).
