THE Soroptimist International Club of Bangsar (SICB), in collaboration with Etiqa Insurance & Takaful successfully held another chapter of its treasure hunt recently to raise much needed funds for the under-privileged women and girls in local communities.

Themed “Hunt with a Heart”, the charity motor hunt drew approximately 110 hunters.

Already in its third chapter, the annual event saw the teams in cars pitting their wits against one another for the chance to walk away with attractive prizes.

Etiqa Insurance & Takaful chief investment officer Norlia Mat Yusof who flagged off the first car said, “To focus on Etiqa’s continuous support of women, we have partnered with SICB to organise a motor hunt that will focus on and will benefit the women community as a whole. One of the community segments that Etiqa focuses on under its corporate responsibility umbrella is women”.

“SICB is proud to partner with Etiqa again for the third year in organising the motor hunt. Being part of a worldwide organisation, SICB is made up of professional women who are actively involved in community projects to advance the rights of women and children. We also aim to ensure that women and girls are given equal opportunities and access to education — both formal and non-formal to improves their social and economic status,” said SICB president Rohayah Ahmad.

“RM13,000 was successfully raised from the charity hunt. The proceeds will go to a good cause to fund courses and training programmes for disadvantaged women and girls, especially single mothers, on income-generating skills. With the aim to empower these women and girls with skills and knowledge, we hope that they can be economically independent by having a sustainable income to support themselves and their families,” she added.

While the teams were raring to go at the 9.30 am flag-off at Etiqa’s headoffice in Bangsar, the six-hour-long hunt ended at Putrajaya Marriot Hotel.

The event gave participants a run for their money with mind-boggling puzzles, word games, and challenges which required a good knowledge of KL’s businesses and landmarks.

Alexander Hoh, Claire Chin, Goh Teck Koon and Julie Tan walked away with a cash prize of RM1,500. This year, the hunt saw the participation of 27 teams. Each team had a minimum of a driver and navigator, with two additional teammates making up a maximum of four.
