Treasure hunt participants look for clues along trail from Selangor to Penang

The early hour flag-off of Hospis Malaysia’s 12th annual charity treasure hunt did not deter spirited treasure hunters from turning up in full force at Tesco Extra carpark in Taman Midah, Cheras.

This year’s hunt had almost 200 participants vying to conquer the challenging hunt trail that began at Tesco Cheras and ended at Hydro Hotel, Batu Ferringhi in Penang.

The Sneaky Snake Trail took participants on a 2D/1N adventure-filled journey with plenty of mind-boggling twists and turns.

Hunters this year had a memorable experience as the trail took them to scenic Bukit Beruntung, Tambun and Ipoh, with Taiping being the final pit stop.

Other than the grand-prize winner who won a luxury Genting Star Cruise getaway to Phuket and Krabi, every participant went home with something — holiday getaways, five-star hotel stays, cash vouchers and gift hampers were won.

Hospis Malaysia chairman Datuk Richard Robless acknowledged the generous support received from various corporate and individual sponsors at the prize-giving ceremony.

In particular, he thanked Hospis Malaysia’s supporter Pestech International Bhd and Genting Star Cruise for once again sponsoring the event as the main sponsor and grand-prize sponsor, respectively.

He also welcomed Deutsche Bank (M) Berhad and IOI Corporation Bhd as the new main sponsors.

“The objective of events of this nature is to raise awareness and understanding on the needs of families and people living with a life-limiting illness.

“Patient referrals to Hospis Malaysia steadily increase every year and we need all the financial help we can get so that we are able to keep doing the work that we do,” he said.

Proceeds from the charity hunt are channelled towards Hospis Malaysia’s continuous efforts to provide professional palliative care services to patients in the Klang Valley suffering from life-limiting illnesses.

All the services provided by Hospis Malaysia are free. As such, contributions from corporations and individuals are essential to ensure continuity of the services received by patients of Hospis Malaysia.

Each year, the organisation’s expenditure is about RM3mil.

The funds raised are used to maintain a professional team of doctors and nurses to provide treatment and care, purchase medicine, medical supplies and medical equipment as well as train and educate Hospis Malaysia’s medical professionals.
