THS Walk Hunt also made a comeback in 2014 to the Pearl of the Orient. However there was a twist this time!
During 2012 and 2013, the hunts have traditionally taken place in shopping malls. Whether the venues were Gurney Plaza, Queensbay Mall or 1st Avenue, these were indoor sites, where the hunters were cozily pampered in an air-conditioned enclosed environment, with no vehicle traffic to fret about.

Come this year, the hunts have now become open-air affairs, which presented a unique challenge on its own.
Firstly they must deal with the raging temperature out there. Such adverse condition would definitely affect their performances, especially if they hunt under the hot sun in the afternoon.

Not only the participants had to deal with the element of weather, the coverage of hunt areas must also be factored in. Unlike the multi-level shopping complexes, the hunt sectors could be widespread, which meant that the hunters must spend a bit more time on travelling.

Such was the nature of the hunt this year, where both Penang legs were held alfresco in Bayan Baru. The township has witnessed remarkable development over the years, with business centres and shoplots mushrooming all around the area. Two such places were Ideal One and Sunshine Square sites, which served as the locations for the 2 hunts.

LEG 2 - 1ST JUN 2014

Another successful THS Penang Walk Hunt - this time, it was Leg 2, held in Bayan Baru.

The hunters re-assembled on 1st June at Sunshine Square area. This time, they had to deal with wider hunt sectors. Not only they needed to cover the Sunshine Square location, they had to travel to D’Piazza shoplots (which are about 200 metres away) for 2 of the sectors.

It was a pleasant surprise as 2 THS members from Ipoh travelled north to join the ‘party’.

The participants gathered at the Old Town Restaurant at 9am for a final briefing before flag-off. The hunt sectors were the rows of shops around Sunshine Square and D'Piazza.

LEG 1 - 4TH MAY 2014

On 4th May (Sun), the hunters gathered for Leg 1 at Ideal One, a location with 3 parallel roads, full with numerous eateries and offices.

Somehow the event didn’t live up to the name of the venue, as halfway through the hunt, the participants realized that the sectors were somehow misprinted.

After a less-than-perfect start, the hunt period was extended to allow the hunters some ‘injury’ time to recuperate and the hunt to return to a semblance of normalcy.

Despite the initial hiccup, the northern hunters still had loads of fun, trying to decipher the tough questions and treasures; one of which was a whistle that the participant must blow before submission.

The finish station was at Green Island Western Food Restaurant, where the answer presentation and prize-giving ceremony were held.
