Chill out weekend fun
LAUGHTER and intense concentration seem to be the norm for The Malay Mail readers who came in droves last Saturday to support and participate in the second Chill Out! with The Malay Mail Mall treasure-hunt over the weekend. On Saturday, teams of two consisting of a kaleidoscope of partnerships such as mothers and daughters, fathers and sons, classmates, colleagues, siblings and spouses raced across Tropicana City Mall to look for clues in the walk hunt in the mall.
The 37 teams had to answer 20 questions and find two treasures. Questions like "Some large primate is a doctor here", had contestants cracking their heads for the answer.
The first prize of RM500 went to "The Underdog" consisting of former colleagues Phang Chung Kent and Teh Hann Tsong, both 24.
Phang, a customer service officer and Teh, a pilot, said they were disappointed in the first hunt on Aug 4 and lost, driving them to give it another shot.
Said Teh: "Our strategy was we came way earlier than the others and roamed around the mall, taking in all the details before the hunt started. We hunt regularly and always do so in a team." Chill Out with the Malay Mail Mall Hunt 2012 (Round 2) - Champion |

"We are very pleased with the response. The Malay Mail will be organising this event at least once a month and it will be moving through different areas where the paper is distributed.
"The readers assured me they will be following The Malay Mail event, irrespective of the location. In the upcoming events, there will be more such family-based activities on a wider scope and we advise readers to read the paper for future events.
"We would like to thank the Clerk of Course for the hunt which is Time Out Solutions and we are already talking to several partners interested in our future events."

Geetha, 40, an experienced treasure hunter brought along her son to experience his first hunt at a safe and enclosed environment at the mall.
“This is my son’s first attempt at hunting and he was a great partner to work with as he was very calm and cooperative. I deciphered the clues while my son looked out for the answers.”
Haresh was excited to tell of his first hunt which he describes as difficult but fun.
“I also enjoyed working as a team with my mum.”

The hunt attracted many new to the hunting game as it offered free registration. Team mates Haniza Hamzah, 24 and Izian Mansor, 23, both bankers, joined when they heard there was no registration fee as they were new hunters and wanted to gain more experience.
Haniza said: “This is our first walk hunt and when we read that there was no joining fee we decided to sign up. It was a good experience though the questions were not easy to decipher.”
Team ‘Chong Wei Menang!’ made up of bankers Amar Farid, 24, and Yeam Shin Yau, 25, said the walk hunt was a different experience from the regular driving hunts as it required contestants to stay focused on the minute details while navigating their way through the mall.
“The walk hunt is a completely different experience as the answers could be in the smallest details and which required concentration while navigating our way through the crowds,” said Yeam.
For those who missed their chance at participating this time around, there will be another walk hunt next week so look out for details in this newspaper!

Chill Out with The Malay Mail on weekends
THE MALAY MAIL is going to change how you spend your weekends. A regular weekend activity for families under the banner "Chill Out with The Malay Mail" (COMM) will be launched this weekend at the Tropicana City Mall in Petaling Jaya.
COMM will be a series of events for everyone in the family to participate and enjoy. The Malay Mail will work its advertisers and business partners to organise interesting activities that are geared to generate lots of fun for both children and adults.
"For the first event on the weekend of Aug 4 and 5, the paper has tied up with Tropicana City Mall to organise a Hari Raya themed range of activities," said Joel Miranda, GM Advertising & Sales, The Malay Mail.
"For children we are organising a colouring competition. It will be in two categories, for children between the ages of five to eight and nine to 12. A maximum of 30 participants are eligible for each category," he said.
Miranda added that in keeping with the theme, there will also be a ketupat weaving contest and a top spinning competition. All these activities will be held on Sunday, Aug 5.
Given that treasure hunting is increasingly becoming a popular past time amongst Malaysians, a Mall Walk Hunt is also being organised on Saturday, Aug 4, as part of the COMM event.
"We are quite certain that we will have an overwhelming response to the mall hunt on Saturday. The hunt is only open to all hunters who do not fall under the 'Masters' category in the Time Out Solutions and Trail Blazers COC's listings. What this means is that the very experienced hunters will not be taking part and this gives a great chance for all the beginners to compete and maybe go home with a prize," added Miranda.
The Clerk of Course for the hunt is Time Out Solutions, an established an reputable treasure hunt organiser. A maximum of 50 teams of two each will participate.
Registration for all activities this weekend is free. Registration counters open at 1pm and participants are encouraged to come early to register.
Miranda added that great prizes including cash awards will be given to winners of the hunt and exciting prizes will also be given for the colouring, ketupat weaving and top spinning contest.
"The COMM event will be held at various locations in the Klang Valley and the rest of the country wherever The Malay Mail is circulated. We will be partnering shopping malls and other venue partners to host these events. We have an exciting line up of activities for the rest of the year. I urge all our readers to keep their eyes and ears peeled for the event as The Malay Mail promises a fun filled weekend for the entire family," said Miranda.
